BERGENFIELD, NJ – In celebration of Arbor Day and the 53rd anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation, the Borough of Bergenfield and Columbia Bank continued their annual tradition of honoring the environment and enhancing the community through tree planting.
For the fourth consecutive year, Columbia Bank has partnered with the Borough of Bergenfield to commemorate Arbor Day by donating and planting a tree on Borough property. This year’s contribution—a beautiful Lilac Tree—was planted on Highgate Terrace, a location selected by the Bergenfield Shade Tree Committee. The tree will serve as a lasting symbol of the community’s commitment to green spaces and environmental stewardship.
“We are glad to partner with Columbia Bank for a fourth year,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “It is an amazing initiative that keeps beautifying our Borough and enhances our shared commitment to sustainability.”
Arbor Day has been celebrated across the United States since 1872, with the Arbor Day Foundation, established in 1979, working to promote tree planting and conservation throughout the year. Bergenfield proudly continues this tradition at the local level with the help of dedicated partners.
Mayor Amatorio also praised the ongoing work of the Shade Tree Committee, which includes Jules Orkin, Phil Neville, Barry Doll, and Javier Nunez. “The collaboration with our Shade Tree Committee has been instrumental in these efforts. Their dedication ensures that we make thoughtful, long-lasting decisions when it comes to planting and maintaining trees throughout the Borough,” the Mayor added.
The newly planted Lilac Tree is expected to provide beauty and ecological benefits to the area for generations to come.
